Bakkhali is a small beach town that is situated in the state of West Bengal. The place is known for its long stretches of empty and clean beaches. The beach extends for a length of around seven kilometers and it is a secluded tourist destination. The beach is generally empty and devoid of tourists, except during the peak tourist season. The hard sands of the beach are ideal for walking and cycling. It is also possible to drive along the shore. The entire length of the beach is lined with casuarinas trees.

At Bakkhali, the beach is long and sandy, the waves twinkling in the sunlight. . The place suits the dream desire of beach lovers who lingers on for a breezy sand-walk. The shallow water lapping the beach does not allow visitors for swimming, instead they can have fun with walking and splashing in the surf. Sightseers cannot leave the place without seeing the palm tree holding 16 faces(shoots), situated on a brick-paved lanes near the bus-stand.Red fiddler crabs march in line on the beach.You can visit the crocodile breeding center that is located in the town and this is a popular tourist attraction. The place is open during the day and it is home to few species of deer. The temple of Banabibi is a local religious site and this can be accessed using a narrow path that passes through the casuarinas grove. There are a few fishing hamlets that are located in and around the place and these are worth visiting. You can opt for a boat ride in to the ocean.
Casurina trees surround the beach, which adds to the beauty and splendor of the beach. The beach almost remains less crowded excepting the holidays. The beach has a calm exposure, which is why we see certain parts of the beach very crowded while some remain as barren as can be. Bakkhali has been modified a bit for the comfort of the tourists. Also a major change has been brought in for it beautification. Like a small stretch near Bakkhali has been lighted up. The beach is suitable for cycling as well as driving. Accommodating these, the beach also is preferable for walks on the hard beach. The windmills generate power in Frasergunj, which is also a unique aspect of the place. The place has other unique features as well like solar heaters, which is used for heating water. Use of electricity is not there for these purposes.

North of Bakkhali
This place gets its name from Andrew Fraser – who tried to develop the area as a resort in early 1900s. He never completed the job – as every time he built houses on the beach, the waves would wash them away. You can see the ruins of his offices by the beach. Fraserganj is also the location of a 1MW Wind Energy Farm.Power from this plant serves the Bakkhali Island.
Henry’s Island (North East from Fraserganj)
 Its a riverine island formed by narrow creeks - and hence can be reached by road. The many lakes in this project are used for fish cultivation and research. There are some nice mangroove forests inside – though no tigers. That is actually good because you get to roam the forests without fear. To reach here take the road to Namkhana from Fraserganj or Bakkhali. A few miles north of Fraserganj turn right onto a brick road that leads to the Henry’s Island Fish Farms. The best way to reach and see this place is to hire a Van Rickshaw. That way the Van Rickshaw driver will double as your tour guide.

 By Air
The nearest airport is situated in the city of Kolkata international airport and it is one of the main ones in the country.
By Train
Nearest Railway Station is Sealdah (South) Station, which goes to Keronjia, after which the visitor has to board a bus for Namkhana.
By Bus
Buses are available from the city of Kolkata to Namkhana and they depart from the Esplanade Bus Terminus. From Namkhana, you have to opt for a ferry ride to cross the river and reach Bakkhali. Both government buses and private buses are available from the city of Kolkata and ticket prices vary according to the operator.
